Goodies and Works
I’m going to admit something, I always work on goodies but I never finish them. I’m yet to release something new for download actually and I’m getting frustrated by this.
I used to be a “desktop custom whore” back in Tiger but as of today I don’t even use icons from other artists on my desktop (except for disks). I download their stuff, put them in Candybar and that’s it. Actually I lie a bit there, there’s only one set of icons I always use: Smooth Leopard from Susumu. Close to Leopard’s originals but even better.
Same goes for themes, graphite here. So yeah I’m not a custom desktop whore anymore and I actually don’t have lots of fun of making goodies. It’s a pain to find new ideas for disks or even folders, lots of work and I don’t really have lots of time for this so that doesn’t really help too…
On the other hand, when I design things for clients, I do this with lots of fun. Not because I get paid but because I like to see them happy. You might say “teehee, goodies make people happy too!” and you’re right but it’s not the same to me. At least for Icon Design goodies…
Since a couple of weeks, I have some ideas of UI that are not mac/iPhone-related at all and when I design these UI ideas for me, I have lots of fun. It’s also not Windows/Linux related, just something new that I think doesn’t exist to me. It’s not groundbreaking but it’s different. In one of my first posts here I talked about a full UI mockup I was working on, I’m still working on it and I hope I can showcase everything here and on my flickr. What is exciting to me the most is that this is not OS X related at all like I said.
I’m a bit tired of designing things for OS X, I want to go further and create new things that I hope someday, any company (Microsoft, Apple or Linux companies) would use them. Dreams are good!
